The Top Chef Tour made its way to Chicago Thursday and Friday and I visited the 1:30pm demo. During the Q&A session an audience member asked, just before I could, about what Kevin and Mike thought on bringing mobile food to the streets of Chicago. And to no one’s surprise they were all for it.
Mike Isabella has a restaurant in DC and said that food carts are everywhere on the streets and vendors just tweet where they are going to be located that day. Kevin Gillespie thought that food carts would get people to try new and different food and food carts are a perfect way to showcase a few treasures from all sorts of cultures; Plus most food carts only serve about three choices for reasonable prices.
One point that I am glad was brought up is that the common misconception about food carts is that they hinder people from actually going to restaurants in that particular city. Kevin stated food carts actually champion the likelihood of someone going to an actual restaurant. What are your thoughts?
